Josh G. Assignment #2b

Title: ‘1984, How Much Fact in Fiction?’

Topic:  Literature, Comparisons

Grade: 9-12

Idea:  Get students to see how the idea for the book came into being by what was going on in politics at the time it was written.  Then to take material from the book, and relate it to today, the state of the country, and where it might be headed.  How does the role of fiction help explain situations in real life?  Have students talk in groups, research, and then present issues about the uses of racial profiling, video surveillance, privacy issues, etc. Materials that are used include the internet, and both take-home and in-class worksheets.
